the la treasure hunt
Sunday 4-2: After a bit of confusion and a LOT of sweaty wrestling bikes into my suburban, "The Conduits" met up in Echo Park for the LA Treaure Hunt. I wish we could say we kicked ass, but first thing out the gate we got lost, and after that it was a game of catch up. It took fully 3 hours for us to navigate from Echo Park to Griffith Park on bike, but to be fair, none of us were from the area, and there were a lot of teams behind us too.
The ride itself was great though. I'd forgotten how f&%$ing awesome it is to ride your bike outdoors. And Griffith Park is actually quite beautiful if you ignore certain aspects. At one point Jean's pal Dan and I rode our bikes to the top of a huge hill, and the view of LA was just so incredible. And the smell of BBQ, and the wind in your hair, and the Wheeeee! feeling of riding downhill... Biking is also a great way to familiarize yourself with a neighborhood, because you rely on sights and landmarks and stuff so much more than in a car, and you're actually noticing everything you pass. I LOVE Echo Park/Silver Lake. In fact, I just love LA!
Ok, anyways.
By the time we got to the "Abandoned Zoo" in Griffith Park as directed by THE FIRST OF 10 CLUES, it seemed that the Hunt organizers had already ditched out for the next location. We looked all over for them but they were no where to be found. So we gave up, melded with another team, and resolved to bike back and on the way, get drunk in broad daylight.
At least in the pursuit of that goal we were victorious.

Before heading home, the team split a lovely plate of carne asada tacos and quesadillas from a roach coach in Echo Park, yum! But I forgot to take pictures... Then more wrestling of bikes into my suburban, and we went home to shower and change. Then dear old Benji picked us up in his rented PT Cruiser and took us back to Echo Park for the celebratpry concert/dinner at The Echo, which we felt fully entitled to attend seeing as we accomplished out Treasure Hunt goals just fine. A little more drinking, another quesadilla, and a lot of loud music. Benji also sort of bought us dinner, yay!

While the girls and I were partying down in Little Britain, my little brother was hanging out in Big Britain, or England if you prefer. He brought back a few fun gifts for us all, including lovely Cadbury chocolates, mmm!

He also got me a quite cute little purse, which he thinks is gaudy, but which I think is fabulous. Check me out!
